Under Section 17 of the Firearms (Amendment) Act 1988, a visitor to Great Britain may, if granted a ‘visitor's permit’, possess shotguns and ammunition without holding a UK shotgun certificate.
A visitor’s permit allows an overseas resident to travel to the UK to attend various shooting events. The visitor will need a sponsor who is resident in the UK. With regards to the Grand Prix of the United Kingdom Compak Sporting, Eaton Hall Shooting ground will be your sponsor.

• Permit Length: A permit may be valid for up to 12 months, but the validity will normally relate to the duration of the proposed visit for the event. Please state the dates required on the application form.
• Duration of application (Approximately):  A typical application takes up to six to eight weeks to process.

• Payment for Visitors Permit: Eaton Hall Shooting Ground will send you a payment link for the application. The application for a visitor’s permit submitted at the nominated dates will be £25 per person. Until payment has been received the application will not be sent.  Individual applications outside our dates for submission will be £50.
• Submission Dates to the Police force: 1 May 2026, 1 June 2026, 1 July 2026, 1 August 2026
• What happens after I apply?: We'll get in touch as quickly as possible if we have any questions about your application or need to ask for more information.
  Otherwise, they should receive your permit within eight weeks.
