FORMALITIES

1. Citizens from European Union

The conditions of bringing in and taking out of weapons and ammunition to and from the Republic of Estonia from European Union member country:

• On the territory of European Union for travelling within European Union with the gun and take with the ammunition, the relevant document is the European Firearms Pass.
• The person having the European Firearms Pass, do not need to apply for any other special permit from the Estonian Police in order to travel to Estonia with weapon and ammunition. But you have to have with you the invitation or other proof that you are going to participate at the shooting competition in Estonia.
  
• Based on above mentioned, you just have to print out the invitation (Click here) from the competitions website and present it together with firearms pass to the customs checking you.
  

2. Citizens NOT from European Union

Bringing in and taking out of weapons and ammunition to and from the Republic of Estonia from NON-EUROPEAN UNION member country:

• In accordance with the Weapons Act of Estonia, a natural person who has an invitation from a foreign person or agency and who holds the special permit issued by the Estonian Police may, for participating at the shooting competition, bring in the weapon and ammunition;
  
  
• The weapon and ammunition, used at the competition have to be brought in and taken out to and from Estonia on the dates showed on the special permit;
  
  
• In applying for the special permit the application has also to include information about the quantity of the ammunition, which the person will bring in to Estonia (if the person is willing to bring in the ammunition, please not to take more than you use at the competitions). At the same time it is advised to purchase the ammunition at the shooting range where competitions take place, in order to simplify the procedures of applying for the special permit. Also we warn that for those, who are flying to Estonia the airline companies might have certain demands or restrictions for ammunition with what you have to count;
  
  
• The import and export (bringing in and taking out) of weapons and ammunition shall be conducted only through border checkpoints open to international travel where customs authorities are permanently present. For those who are travelling to Estonia by car or by bus we recommend to use the following border checkpoints: Koidula, Luhamaa or Narva.  For those, who are flying to Estonia, there is only one border checkpoint – Tallinn airport.
